The Woody Guthrie Center and Music to Life are coming together to launch Better World A-Comin’ — a three-part series designed to empower local/regional musicians to revitalize the creative economy and heal their communities. Through coalition building, facilitated discussions and workshops, musicians will understand the resources, skills and partnerships needed to build a social change practice and deliver sustainable, community-oriented programs. Check out the Series Overview below for more information about each session.
We welcome aspiring and mentor artists, sponsors and underwriters to this effort:
- Musicians are encouraged to attend Parts I and II — mentoring sessions with Mary Gauthier and SaulPaul.
- Musicians who would like to participate in the series and qualify for Part III, Accelerator Workshop/Change Agent Training, should complete the application linked here. APPLICATION DEADLINE: MONDAY, 2/21/22.
- Sponsors and underwriters, please connect with Executive Director of the Woody Guthrie Center, Deana McCloud (deana@woodyguthriecenter.org) to learn more.
The first mentorship session will take place with Mary Gauthier on Friday, November 5, 2021 from 1-3 pm CT. Mary is a Grammy nominated folk singer and songwriter and was named one of the best songwriters of her generation by the Associated Press. She’s also a published author; her first book Saved by a Song came out on St. Martin’s Press in 2021.
Artists will join a dialogue facilitated by Mary, covering topics like: marketing yourself as a social change artist, identifying the right partners and expanding your community impact beyond performances. The session is open to the public and other artists who are eager to manifest their vision for community change without constantly sacrificing their personal and professional livelihoods. Help us spread the word and share this Facebook event with your friends!
