Vanessa Lively

Vanessa Lively is an eclectic, bilingual songwriter and nonprofit founder who brings passion and fire to her heart-centric writing style and way of living. Margaret Moser of The Austin Chronicle describes Vanessa’s music as “folk music on fire with worldly rhythms and a Latin pulse.”

In 2017, Vanessa started a music-based nonprofit program in Austin, TX called Home Street Music. Home Street Music empowers people who have experienced homelessness by hosting music circles that build community, restore confidence, and reclaim dignity through the healing power of song, as well as providing job opportunities to working musicians.

In addition to Lively's music, art and social justice work, she is also raising two young boys in the heart of the city. She is dedicated to living and communicating in a nonviolent way, and passes this way of living onto her children. Her dedication to peace is evident in all she does, especially in her music.

Music has always been an integral part of Vanessa Lively’s life. She has used it as a means of self-expression and to process the world around her.” – Anna Lassmann, Austin Woman Magazine. Her latest release "Canaries" (co-written with Colin Brooks) was written in the wake of the Uvalde school shooting, and is a song dedicated to musicians, artists and activists working for positive change in our world. They are the proverbial "canaries in the coal mine" crying out for justice, peace and a safer world for our children.

"Vanessa Lively shows how universal the language of music really is and how people all over the world can unite in solidarity, harmony and pleasure, regardless of their individual origin or race."
