Lia Uribe

Dr. Lia Uribe is associate dean and professor of music at the University of Arkansas. She maintains an active career as a chamber musician, orchestral player, and teaching artist. She has been a guest artist in Colombia, Mexico, Spain, Bolivia, Canada, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Finland, Argentina, Panama, Germany, Guatemala, Ecuador, Greece, Venezuela, Japan, Peru, England, Thailand, Mexico, and the United States. Her research is centered on marginalized and underrepresented music and composers.

As an advocate for new repertoire, she has premiered and commissioned numerous works for the bassoon. Uribe is the founder and director of RefleXions Music Series, a project that fosters creative justice through musical opportunities to reflect, learn, grow, change, and teach. Lia has been a recipient of the 3 60 grant twice, the Individual Artist category in 2019, and the Community Activator in 2021, grants she used to work on new commissions and recordings and to curate programming for RefleXions. Originally from Colombia, Lia Uribe holds degrees in bassoon performance from Universidad Nacional de Colombia, the University of Arkansas, and the University of Kansas, and an MBA in Arts Innovation through the Global Leaders Institute curated and certified by Harvard, Duke, Georgetown, McGill, NYU, and Bard College.
