Shawna Potter

Shawna Potter is an activist, educator, Intimacy Coordinator, and the lead singer of the Baltimore feminist punk band, War On Women. Through her music and her work, Shawna has been empowering people to make their community more fun and inclusive for over a decade. She created the Safer Space Program and wrote “Making Spaces Safer: A Guide to Giving Harassment the Boot Wherever You Work, Play, and Gather” because everyone deserves equal access to a good time. Over the pandemic, Shawna expanded her safety skill set by training to become an Intimacy Professional for both theater and film. She also hosts the podcast But Her Lyrics…, is ordained to perform wedding ceremonies, and runs Big Crunch Amp Repair. Shawna will use the skills she learns in the MCA to expand the Safer Space Program, which trains a majority of staff in any space or small business to respond to identity-based harassment in a victim-centered way, as well as providing tools to help prevent it from happening in the first place.
