Kate Rose
Fiddler, interactive performer, and Irish dance leader Kate Rose plays from a rooted, heartfelt tradition learned from her years among the fiddling farmers of County Clare, Ireland. Her performances captivate audiences of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, as she gets them to laugh, clap along, and learn a jig. She offers fun educational performances as well as music to set the atmosphere for any occasion or enliven any event. You will find her at the historic Weatherford Hotel in Flagstaff, AZ, where she leads the weekly Irish Night, and at her monthly Wild Irish Community Dances, in addition to playing at music festivals, contra dances, and house concerts around Arizona with her duo Wild World Irish Fiddle, with legendary Latin and multigenre guitarist Armand Ramirez. Their unique and vibrant pulse weaves virtuosity, rooted traditions, and spontaneous, intoxicating fusion for an unforgettable experience. With an international background in education, research, publishing, nonprofit leadership, and folk music and dance and a PhD in French and Comparative Literature, Dr. Kate Rose currently serves as Executive Director of the nonprofit Wild Steps, which uses folk music and dance to serve vulnerable populations such as developmentally disabled adults, struggling high school students, the unhoused, and our undocumented neighbors. She is also pioneering the Wild West Fiddle Project, researching and bringing to life Arizona’s own early multicultural traditions of music and dance.
