Gregg Griffin
Gregg Griffin, Jr. is a Talented and Gifted Music Instructor in the Vermilion Parish School System with nearly 20 years of experience as a music educator, performer, and cultural advocate. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Northwestern State University and a Master’s degree in Music Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. His thesis, Allons Louisiane, Show Me How to Two-Step, explores the cultural and musical impact of Cajun and Zydeco music in school settings.
Gregg is the founder and chair of the Louisiana Roots Music Education Collective, a committee of the Louisiana Music Educators Association working to establish the state’s first Cajun and Zydeco All-State Ensemble. He also co-founded FÊTE, the Folk Education and Tradition Exchange, a grassroots effort to expand access to traditional music and cultural exchange.
In the classroom, Gregg is known for nurturing both musical skill and cultural curiosity. He has taught for Lâche Pas, a program focused on Cajun and Creole music, and has helped countless students grow into confident performers. He regularly presents his research at state and national conferences, including the Louisiana Music Educators Association, the Association for Popular Music Education, and the American Musicological Society.
As a performer, Gregg co-founded the band Poisson Rouge with his wife, Kylie, also a music educator. Together they created Petits Cajun et Creoles, a music camp for children rooted in Louisiana’s rich cultural traditions. Gregg lives in Louisiana with Kylie and their four daughters, honoring the memory of their late son, Gregory Thomas.
