Annick Odom
For over a decade, Annick Odom has used music as a tool for social change, engaging with communities through performance, education, and collaborative projects. As a Belgian-American performer-composer, songwriter, and storyteller, she bridges traditional folk music with contemporary composition, creating works that amplify cultural heritage and community voices.
Annick has worked internationally with organizations committed to social impact through the arts, including El Sistema-inspired programs, the Sphinx Organization, and Ypsilanti Youth Orchestra. Her research and artistic work intersect in projects that explore accessibility in the arts, community storytelling, and participatory performance. She has collaborated with global leaders in music and social engagement and her work has taken her around the world, including to Suriname, where she collaborated with the Nationale Volksmuziekschool and led improvisation and composition workshops with young musicians. In Mexico, she worked with a youth orchestra program, supporting arts education initiatives that empower young musicians. She was also a musician for Music for Life, a project bringing live music, interactive workshops to hospitals and care facilities for those with dementia, and she was a part of The Mystifiers in Amsterdam, creating musical band experiences for unhoused musicians of all ages.
Through her band Linen of Words, experimental folk projects, and community crankie-building initiatives, Annick continues to create spaces where music fosters connection and dialogue. She is currently developing a large-scale community folk arts project that weaves oral histories into visual and musical storytelling.
