Grizelda Guerrero
Gigi La Sheekana Guerrero, M.Ed. is an accomplished educator, performer, and advocate for cultural preservation. She was born and raised in Mission, Texas, to Tejano music pioneer Juan Guerrero of Los Sheekanos. Gigi grew up immersed in the vibrant world of music, later becoming a performer in her father’s band from 1991 until his passing in 2022.Gigi’s educational journey reflects her resilience and dedication to learning. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation from UT Pan American and a Master’s degree in Special Education. Her career in education has focused on empowering students with diverse learning needs and fostering their success. Her work now intersects with her passion for music and cultural heritage.
In 2024, Gigi founded the Tejano Music Legacy Foundation, where she serves as President. The foundation promotes and preserves Tejano music by supporting music education, mentoring young artists, and honoring the contributions of Tejano pioneers. Her efforts have already launched a pilot music program in Edinburg CISD, providing students with tools to explore Tejano music traditions.
Gigi is also a music publisher with JuGriMar Music LLC and the host of the podcast Giras y Desveladas, where she interviews musicians about their touring experiences and careers. She was inducted into the Tejano Roots Hall of Fame in 2021. Her passion for education, music, and cultural preservation drives her mission to inspire and uplift her community.
