Jake Cassman

Jake began playing piano at age five and started writing music soon after. He loved Elton John from an early age -- but when his teacher couldn't show him how to play Green Day songs, he began teaching himself; and when he realized he wanted music to be his career, he left an Ivy League school to pursue it. Since then Jake has worked as a dueling piano player, musical theater composer, improv and sketch comedian, and podcast producer (just to name a few gigs). During the pandemic, he got a master’s degree in Community Music at USC, writing a thesis on a program for justice-involved young adults here in LA. He currently work as a music educator at the Geffen Academy @ UCLA, teaching students grades 6-12.

Jake started his own band in 2012, and since then has released five records and played across the country. He has also made award-winning music videos that address intersectionality and media-driven partisanship, and written songs that are directly inspired by political violence, social injustice, and more issues that define our time.
