Theresa Koon

Theresa Koon’s career began as a singer, pianist and composer-arranger, performing in wide-ranging styles from Classical to Cabaret to Crossover Music. Highlights included Counter-culture Vaudeville Shows, touring with The Flying Karamozov Brothers, Jim Page, Faith Petric, dADa, and others, alongside straight gigs with Portland Opera, Arizona Opera, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and the like. In 1990 she received a three-year opera soloist contract with Thüringer Landestheater in eastern Germany, where observing the political transition from an eastern perspective provided powerful insights.

Returning home, Theresa shifted away from singing towards teaching, piano, and more composition, often focusing on issues of social and environment concern. Theresa’s current project is a setting of former Oregon Poet Laureate Kim Stafford’s Proclamation for Peace, which will be featured in a film by internationally award-winning filmmaker Ron Bourke. TIKKUN MUSIC is inspired by the Hebrew phrase "tikkun olam", which means ‘healing the world.’
