Candice Wicks-Davis

Candice is a Long Beach native and the founder and CEO of Edutainment for Equity. She holds a Masters in Education from San Francisco State University and a Bachelor’s in Sociology from UC Berkeley. She has 20 years of experience in the field of technical assistance. Candice is also an artist who travels extensively. She is the volunteer Operations Manager of award-winning performance ensemble Young, Gifted & Black of Oakland.

She used to sing Chaka Khan, Mary J. Blige and Whitney Houston songs into a hairbrush. Fascinated by soul music of the 60s and 70s and jazz of the 30s and 40s, she developed a unique blend of raw soul vocals and retro soul rhythms. Performing as “Candice Antique,” she began her career in music as the lead singer of beatboxing soul combo Antique Naked Soul featuring renowned beatboxer Tommy Soulati Shepherd. The combo has performed with The Roots, Blackalicious, Yasiin Bey fka. Mos Def, Nneka and Talib Kweli. Antique Naked Soul was featured twice on Afropunk, AJ+, KALW and KQED Arts and performed at SXSW in 2018.

Candice Antique has now expanded her reach by touring Africa and the Caribbean as a solo artist. She toured 8 countries in three years with her musical campaign Nappy, which celebrates the beauty of natural hair while collaborating with local musicians to create culturally relevant music.
