Mahoganee Amiger
With a career spanning over 35 years in the music arts industry as a performing artist and songwriter, now a Certified Teaching Artists through the South Carolina Arts Commission in the field of music, member of the Recording Academy (Grammys) as well as having been a GrammyU mentor, Mahoganee Amiger is a Leo Twiggs Leadership Scholar, RWJF/NCHE CoHLI Cohort 3 Fellow, TEDx performer, and commissioned to write the Alma mater for TCL Technical College of the Lowcountry.
She's recorded and released 14 musical projects and collaborated on projects for other Gullah/Geechee artists. Mahoganee has shared lineups and projects with Grammy winners and nominees including Dom Flemmons and Carolyn Malachi, fellow globally recognized South Carolina natives blues musician Aida Victory and composer, arranger and conductor Nicole Neely -most recently contributing as a Gullah/Geechee Sound Healer to the Grammy-nominated album The Auditorium Vol. 1 by Common and Pete Rock and its Grammy nominated video, "When the Sun Shines Again."
Mahoganee along with her husband Andre established Responsible ARTistry, Inc. in 2006, a leading arts organization in her home state of South Carolina now creating an environment where students respect each other, can thrive, explore their creativity, the Gullah Geechee heritage and reach new heights in their learning journey. Their mission is to arm youth with the imagination to survive through mentorship camps, residencies, workshops and classes driven by fostering leadership skills, self awareness and understanding the responsibility of being good stewards of our planet through music and the arts.
