Yano Rivera
La Peña Community Chorus was founded in 1978 by Chilean refugees and their community of supporters in Berkeley, California. Our group is a multi-generational choir and ensemble, dedicated to justice, equality, and peace through music. Yano Rivera is a tenor in the chorus. He grew up on a farm in the mountains of Puerto Rico and proudly graduated from San Juan’s arts-magnet high school, 'Escuela Central de Artes Visuales' (with much love for his community-college people too). Yano preserves murals, reads two newspapers a day, translates poems into emoji, and creates media!
